More about the artists:
Inge Beckmann is a singer-songwriter and actress from Cape Town, best known for her Sama Award winning contribution as vocalist and songwriter of alternative-electro outfit, Lark. She is currently pursuing a career in acting, having made her debut appearance opposite Orlando Bloom in City of Violence in 2014. Inge is currently working on an American TV series filmed in Cape Town. She continues to perform live as a solo artist as well as lead vocalist and songwriter of 70’s punk inspired outfit, Beast, who has just released their follow-up album Bardo earlier this year.
Andra is a Namibia-born independent singer and songwriter with a sincere, honest and straightforward approach to her music. She is well-known for her passionate performances, guitar skills and a powerful voice that represents the contrasts of the land she grew up in. “She is phenomenal in her interpretation of a variety of themes and styles. Her voice is majestic and her presence hypnotic,” writes Pretoria News.
It has been close to three years since the release of Lucy’s debut album and her emergence on the South African music scene. The growth in these two years, due to relentless touring and collaborations with various artists, has resulted in a new avenue for the 25 year old – one of colourful soundscapes, dreamy melodies and primal rhythms, while still staying true to her roots of acoustic folk and her honest way with words.
Sannie Fox is a guitarist, songwriter and vocalist hailed as a rock and blues queen of South Africa. She has taken her voice and her guitar to most major stages in the country. In 2010 Sannie formed and composed for three-piece rock outfit Machineri and went on to release a critically acclaimed album mastered by Brian Lucey (The Black Keys) with all artwork conceived by the legendary graphic artist Storm Thorgerson (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin). This Autumn she released her debut solo album entitled Serpente Masjien through record label Just Music. The album was selected to be featured on the “new artist” page for iTunes UK as well as US and displays a torrent of axe-wielding instrumentation and massive vocals powered by solid drum and bass. She has collaborated and worked with a wide variety of local musicians ranging from Albert Frost to Derek Gripper, Madala Kunene, Busi Mhlongo, The Brother Moves On and Theo Crous.
Sannie’s music conjures up and has been compared to an eclectic mix of artists and genres ranging from Screaming Jay Hawkins, to Led Zeppelin, Etta James, Patti Smith, John Lee Hooker, 70’s rock, fado, gospel and Malian blues. Serpente Masjien is described as drawing “heavy influence from the blues and rock bands of the 70’s while the vocals serve as the driving force. Each track stands out with singular purpose like the gadgets on a Swiss Army knife.” – Texx and the City
