A Story of Inspiration: The Pretty Blog

Having The Pretty Blog as an official online media partner since 2012 has been a wonderful experience. Our shared passion for the pretty things in life have led to beautiful posts about KAMERS events, special styled shoots, inspiring supplier stories and our collaborative annual KAMERS & The Pretty Blog Photo Competition. The story behind this online haven of inspiration, which recently introduced new sections and had a complete makeover, is one of entrepreneurial passion and dreaming big. And of course we love those at KAMERS!

Meeting with brides on a regular basis, renowned wedding photographer, Christine Meintjes, realised there was a huge need for a digital platform, where brides could be inspired and connect to great service providers. After many chats with Nicola Pretorius, they decided to finally build what they called, The Pretty Blog. The blog was launched in July 2010, as an inspirational wedding blog, not only inspiring brides, but incorporating inspiration for all aspects of women’s lives.

The Pretty Blog readers are women who appreciate creativity, enjoy hearty, home cooked meals, find joy in creating a beautiful home, want to entertain friends with a few simple homemade eats, enjoy spending some time on DIY projects and share the vision of looking at the pretty side of life. Of course that means the KAMERS team are regular visitors to the site.

Starting out with only a few articles per week, the blog soon turned into a daily, digital publication, built for the reader and the entrepreneur alike. Much like KAMERS, their articles inspire the everyday girl to be creative and opens up a world where entrepreneurs can showcase their talent and products.

Beginning August 2013, Nicola and Christine’s dream of having five dedicated sections on The Pretty Blog was realised, when they launched the new website, consisting of dedicated Wedding, Food & Wine, Style & Home, Family & Kids and Travel sections. Following the success of the lifestyle articles they introduced in the beginning of 2012, they soon realised the need for a better way to structure the different types of content. And with a strong emphasis on photography and design, they also decided to give the blog a fresher appearance, allowing for bigger photos and a cleaner look.

Apart from contemporary design with its editorial feel, the blog now allows readers to customise their experience by creating a “My Pretty Things” profile where they can save articles, recipes, giveaways or services to refer to later. Readers can also control what type of content they would like to see, for example the brides that followed the blog in the past and have since started a family might now be more interested in the Family & Kids section and will be able to hide the wedding related articles.
